The Salem Witch Trials

The characters in the play are all based on real people. In 1692 twenty six people were convicted of witchcraft. Of these, nineteen were hanged. Giles Corey allowed himself to be crushed to death rather than break his silence and forfeit his family's lands and property.

THE CRUCIBLE

Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible' is one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century, mirroring one of history's blackest events with the paranoid Anti-Communist hunts of his own time.

Abigail Williams realises her behaviour is likely to ruin her, and she deflects attention away by claiming witchcraft. In the subsequent witch hunt, society spirals into madness as people are executed on the words of hysterical girls. A wonderful, powerful and timeless depiction of how intolerance and hysteria can tear a community apart.

The Lichfield Players proudly presented Miller's masterpiece in the Lichfield Garrick Studio.
