Tons Of Money

Directed by Jim Worrallo

This play, by Will Evans and Valentine, was the first of the famous Aldwych farces, originally produced in 1922 and adapted by Alan Ayckbourn for the National Theatre in 1986. Inherited debts, missing heirs and imposters provide a hilarious imbroglio which has been described as "an unerring theatrical delight" and "a mirthful rollercoaster through improbably happenings."

Tons of Money ran in the Garrick main theatre between 1st Octbober and 4th October 2008.

Review for TONS OF MONEY

Oct 9 2008 by Ann Mayo

An outstanding set greeted the audience as the curtain rose on this play by Will Evans and Valentine, adapted by Alan Ayckbourn.

Set in 1922, Tons of Money is a little dated, but the Players pulled it off and did justice to the play originally produced in 1922 - the first of the famous Aldwych farces.

Harry Goss and Rachel Duncan as the butler and maid provided us with many a laugh and Rosemary Bodger was a wonderful 'deaf' aunt. Charlotte Bodger proved she's following in her parent's foot steps, turning in another good performance as the harrassed wife. But Nigel Lowe stole the show as the husband who 'died' twice and came back in different disguises - his 'Monk' was just superb.

The remainder of the cast provided strong support for the main characters.

The authentic-looking set was designed by Andrew Bodger and Win Churchill and Millie Goss provided the costumes essential for a play set in 1922.
