Caught in the Net

by Ray Cooney

directed by Jim Worrallo

The 2011-12 season opened with Caught in the Net. Lichfield Players' audiences have always enjoyed the exhilarating fun and runaway energy of a really good farce and Ray Cooney is the undisputed master of the art. The Players had presented his It Runs in the Family in 2006.

This play is the sequel to the earlier classic Run for Your Wife but no prior knowledge was needed for the audience to have a great night out.

The story revolved around bigamist taxi driver hero John Smith, who is still busy keeping both of his families unaware of each other. Unfortunately his son and daughter have met on the internet and want to see each other because they have so much in common. Inevitable chaos ensues when John is forced to take ever more desperate action to keep them apart and stop his secret being exposed.

Director Jim Worrallo said:

“Although it’s a sequel, you don’t need to have seen Run For Your Wife first, this is a terrific play in its own right. It’s fast, funny, frantic and physical, and the cast are still laughing through the rehearsals. We will have stopped just in time for the audience to take over on opening night!”
